Caldwell Idaho

Caldwell is has long been the sister city to Nampa and it is my hometown and close to my heart.  Caldwell is located about 30 minutes west of the Capital city of Boiseand only 15 minutes from Nampa. Calwell is located in Canyon County.  In 2000 Caldwell started seeing some positive changes and many new residents have moved to Caldwell because of its "Simple Life" and positive leadership. It's population stands at approximatley 40,000 in 2007.

Indian Creek runs through the heart of Caldwell and plans are underway to take advantage of the beauty of this natural waterway.  A water wheel has been added and many more work is planned to take advantage of its natural beauty.  When I was a kid growing up my cousins and I would catch 18" Rainbow Trout out of this river!

The Boise River runs through the north end of the city of Caldwell and growing up I spent many hours fishing, hunting and rafting the Boise River.   The river is awesome and runs through the heart of Boise and N.W. through the north end of Caldwell.  The river is lined with beautiful trees and in the fall these trees turn a beautiful magical color.  Thousands of residents and visitors float and fish this river and enjoy what it has to offer. The Boise River begins it's journey in the heart of Idaho and it meanders through S.W. Idaho and eventually joins the Snake River.  The Snake River finds it's way to the Columbia River that eventually enters the Pacific Ocean.

Growing up I will never forget my mom and dad taking me to the Caldwell Night Rodeo which has become one of the top rodeos in the nation without a doubt.  The rodeo is a favorite of professional cowboys.  I know this because "I was one".   The rodeo is held August 14-18 each year and you should see the look of the faces of both young and old when it is "Rodeo Week".  Many cowboys I have spoken with over the years have mentioned that they will pass up other top rodeos to have an opportunity to ride in this rodeo.  The rodeo attracts the top rodeo cowboys from the PRCA (Professional Rode Cowboys Association)

The pride and joy of Caldwell is The College of Idaho and the history of this college is incredible.  It is Idaho's oldest 4-year institution of higher education.  The schools student/teacher ratio is only 11:1 with the average class size being 10 students.   Approximately 800 students from 20 states and 10 nations call Albertson's College of Idaho home.  This Liberal Arts college has graduated Rhodes Scholars and in sports is known for is strong Ski, tennis, baseball and basketball teams.

Caldwell has a strong historic district with many turn of the century homes lining streets like Cleveland, Blaine, Dearborn, Everett and Fillmore. The original "Train Depot" has been totally remodeled to it's original state and is one of the beautiful landmarks of downtown Caldwell.  Anyone that purchases a home in the Historic District must follow strict guidelines when remodeling it.

The youth had something to cheer about in Caldwell when a brand new Caldwell YMCA became reality in 2005.  This new facility is a stat of the art family facility which continues to grow in popularity and use.  Located south of Caldwell on Indiana Street it is only a few blocks from Caldwell High School. Complete with a fabulous indoor pool this new YMCA has become the talk of the town.

Caldwell is home to a wonderful 9-hole Fairview Golf Coursewhich is the favorite of many youth and elders as well.  One can "Tee it up" and finish playing the 9 holes of golf in an hour or less (depending on your handicap...LOL).  Caldwell also has a beautiful downtown park complete with swimming pool and tennis court.  Caldwell also is home to the Centennial Park at the N.W. end of Caldwell that borders the beautiful Boise River and connects to Caldwell's Green Belt complete with a paved walking path that borders the Boise River. Centennial Park is home to many soccer games during the summer months.  Luby Park is at the base of Canyon Hill and a favorite hangout on weekends.

Discover why I love Caldwell and why I continue to call it home.
