FREE is always good in this day and age...especially if it is not only free but GOOD! I purchased a new notebook computer this weekend and after a very lengthy conversation with the very knowledgeable Best Buy salesman I decided to purchase the virus software Trend Micro for $39.99 with a $20 annual subscription fee. This seemed pretty reasonable so I decided to try it, especially when I found out it is faster and takes less memory that Norton and McAfee, etc. and it is a lot less expensive than these other virus programs.
I went ahead and loaded it on my notebook without a problem but when I tried to load it on my desktop computer I could not load it because I received the error message "A security threat prevented the installation of Trend Micro".
After much investigation I found out there is a FREE web version of Trend Micro called Trend Micro House Call that will run a complete scan on your computer and removed any spyware and other infections found. My scan took just over 2 1/2 hours and, boy did it ever clean up my computer. There is so much spyware that can attach to our computers just by visiting websites and this program really cleaned up my hard drive.
Now I can load the Trend Micro CD I purchased on my desktop without any error messages and my computer is running FASTER without any delays. I highly recommend if you do nothing else, please click the Trend Micro House Call link above and start your free scan. You will be amazed what this program will find. I also feel the $39.99 up front fee and $20/year fee for the annual subscription is a bargain.

Hi George - I agree completely with you about Trend Micro being a complete bargain at that price. I switched to that software 3 years ago, and would be hard-pressed to ever use anything else.
Would you suggest "House Call" scan for someone who already has and uses Trend Micro? I have mine running constantly in the background, and am just curious what you would suggest on that.
Thanks!
Ann
Hi Ann - I only had to use the House Call version on line before I could load the Trend Micro disk. This is way I recommnded House Call to those that may need to clean up their computer first. Thanks Ann and have a great evening.
George -- Your post is definitely timely for me. My motherboard recently bit the dust (no idea why), and I'm in the market for a new laptop too. So I'll check this out when I make my upcoming purchase. Did you do much research before buying your new notebook? If so, I'd love to hear any tips you picked up in the process. Many thanks.
Carol - Thank you my friend. I have been pretty impressed so far!
Lisa - I did quite a bit of research and ended up with a new Dell Inspiron with an Intell Core 2 Duo processor, 2 GB DDR2 memory and 250 G Hard Drive, and 14.1" widescreen. I reads and writes dual-layer DVD's and CD's and has a built in webcam and microphone. Price was $799.99 My last notebook was a Dell and I have had Dell desktops in the past and have been real happy with them. I purchased the notebook at Best Buy. I hope this helps and good luck to you.
It is a very good product. I've used house call! I also use Panda, but on this year's update for re-subscription I ran into a slower connection and connectivity issues on the Internet on one laptop! Thanks for sharing, I will check out Trend Micro again!
I'm a free AVG user after an unsuccessful bout with Trend Micro. It was interesting reading the other comments to see what others have tried and canned. Thank you.
Katerina - I had the opposite happen. I had AVG and Spybot Search and Destroy for years and kept them up to date and ran the programs daily but my computer kept getting slower and hanging up more. As soon as I ran the free House Call my computer ran faster and did not hang up. Maybe it is a newer version than what you had my friend? Thanks for sharing.
Susie - As I mentioned to Katerina, I used AVG and Spybot Search and Destroy with minimal results and still had viruses and bad files attach to my hard drive. Thanks for sharing.
Hey George,
Thanks for the info. I have been using Avast and it locked up my online forms electronic versionand the MLS techs still can't figure out why.
Casey - Thank you for stopping by and for the compliment. Have a great day.
George - thanks for the freebie. I am going to check it out and clean up the spy ware on my PC. Thanks much.
Chuck
Hi George. Thanks for sharing the great tip! Keep them coming.
Thanks for this link. I'm going to give it a try tomorrow. My computer is starting to slow down and drag and I have been looking for something good to get it cleaned up!
Vincent - You go it my friend!
Rod - That is what I heard...good luck to you.
Kimberly - I hope it works well for you...good luck to you!
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don't know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often. Joannah http://myscones.com
