Idaho Economy Scores A Triple Play

USA today says Idaho is way ahead of the rest of the nation and has a "Triple Play" in the fact that it has:

  • Computer Chips
  • Potato Chips (The #1 one state for growing potatos)
  • Amenities Business

Amenities Business in the fact that Idaho has hiking, hunting, fishing, skiing and whitewater rafting that attracts tourist and new residents, from the billionaires to young outdoor enthusiasts.

The economy is fueled by companies like Micron Technologies which is Idaho's largest employer, employing 9,000 people and Hewlett-Packard's printer division which is headquartered in Boise.  Albertson's Grocery Store chain was founded in Idaho by the late Joe Alberston and potato magnat J.R. Simplot began his potato processing empire in Caldwell Idaho just 35 miles west of Boise where I call home.

 

Potato prices are very high with the demand for French fries and other potato products.  Corn products are in high demand fueled by the demand for Ethanol. Milk is at all-time high prices.

  1. Newsflash : Idaho has plenty of farmers and dairymen!
  2. Idaho is clicking on all cylinders: Farming, technology, tourism, construction, and service industries.
  3. Idaho has a 2.4% jobless rate, the lowest in the nation, and has added jobs every year since 1987.

The article in the USA today states:  "With all due respect to Phoenix, Las Vegas, and Orlando, the heart of America's biggest economic boom is right here in Idaho".

George, if the 3rd one was poker chips, I'd move to ID tomorrow! Just kidding, I don't even gamble, but I thought computer chips and potato chips needed a 3rd chip....oooohhh how about chocolate?! I agree about the photos...the layout is striking as well as the landscape. Idaho sounds like it is doing VERY well. That's awesome!
