Home Staging hits Hollywood big time

"You don't have to be a star, baby, to be in Beth Ann Shepherd's show"  This heading caught my attention because I was a big Marilyn McCoo fan.  O.K., so I'm showing my age!

Real Estate News had an article today that stated Beth Ann Shepherd has become so popular as a home stager that some of her customers include Black Eyed Peas, hot Fergie, leading man actor Josh Duhamel, Christina Ricci, and even the glamorous "Desperate Housewives" actress, Eva Longoria.

In the article Beth Ann Shepherd is quoted as saying these are some basic things she targets in any home.  I am just mentioning the bullets.  The complete article is very interesting and can be read by clicking here.

  • Appeal
  • Enchant
  • Refresh
  • Rearrange
  • Upgrade
  • Accommodate
  • Impress
  • Reorganize
  • Entertain
  • Accentuate

Beth Ann Sheperd operates under the name "Dressed to Close" and states "You dont have to be a star, baby to be in Beth Ann Shephered's show"

I actually saw a show on TV about how Josh Duhamel's house was staged for sale.  She did a beautiful job.  She does such a great job that  I wondered if people changed their mind after she worked on the home.

I thought their homes always looked great and did not need staging.

I'm not sure why some of the sellers I have refuse to spend the extra money to stage when their homes are plain Jane.

George, I can imagine some of these homes are quite eccentric and need some neutralizing, maybe that's where "accommodate" comes in.

George - Now that would be my dream job... Stager to the stars.  ;)   I don't know if you checked out the stater's website but AR's own Shell Brodnax is quoted in it.   Thanks for sharing this.  You should post it in Stage It Forward...

George,

The post is great! I totally agree with the points. As for stars home staging works because it for the public to view not for the clients individual taste. This stager is good because she can do this with these high end home owners. I am sure she has come across some pretty eccentric homes and said wow we need to tone this down. It is every stagers dream to work with a home that has good bones because the staging looks that much better. Sun valley Id  has stars maybe I should start advertising there!!!

well i don't know.. fergie and josh should only be counted as one since they are boyfriend girlfriend. haha just kidding. i did see their house being shown on tv and i would say they needed staging. one of the rooms was her closets basically with racks and racks of clothes! i thought it looked really nice. but makes me ponder what is the price tag for staging on a hollywood seller?

i completely agree with all her points, especially "Accommodate." we are in the service industry and accommodate we must! also when doing redesign jobs, i find "compromise" is also crucial when it comes to reluctant clients. sometimes we have to budge a little to keep them less grumpy when it comes to selling.

cheers,

George,

Seacoast NH actually has Adam Sandler's family...maybe there's hope for Hollywood staging in little old NH?

Sue, I actually just emailed Jim Cary, Robin Williams and Chevy Chase and highly recommended you as their home stager.  They all want to have a group meeting with you sometime next week :-)

Beth Anne's rooms always looks sensational.  The article is a fun re-working of what we all do. But, I love this idea...

"Purchase extra-long white sheer mesh draperies and install rods around your trellises or outdoor area for that billowy drapery feeling found only in exclusive resort hotels throughout the world."

How do you suppose we do this in the North East?  Maybe just for the opening weekend?  It's a classy idea, if you can keep it looking clean and billowy.

George! Sorry I missed your call. Believe me I am 'young' enough to remember Solid Gold...maybe this will ring a bell for you:

The music has magic, you know you can catch it.
If you let the songs take control the sound starts to glisten.
The more that you listen and slowly it turns into gold.

CHORUS
Solid Gold - Filling up my life with music
Solid Gold - Putting rhythm in my soul
There's song that's unreeling
To fit the way that I'm feeling
My head keeps spinning to music; spinning to gold.

I've come to discover that music's a lover.
It's heat keeps me warm when I'm cold.
The beat starts to bend me.  The melodies send me.
And everything melts into gold

One of my first crushes was on Rex Smith when he was hosting with Marylin

Hey, what about Danny Terio and Dance Fever. It was another favorite of mine!

Has anyone ever worked with celebrities?  It's awful!  I wouldn't wish that on anyone I liked.

Juliet - Hmmm, why don't you like celebrities?

Thanks Sue....I am not a stager.  I just read this article and wanted to share it.  What in the world do you want me to write if I don't know what to write.  All of you are the experts...not me :-)

Interesting article with good points, George. Thanks for sharing it.  Staging for the stars?  Why not, just pretend they put their pants on one leg at a time?
